Colophon
This site is built with care and a handful of strong opinions about what a personal website should feel like.
Typography
Headings are set in Playfair Display, a high-contrast transitional serif that brings an editorial quality to titles. Body text uses Source Serif 4, designed specifically for long-form digital reading with excellent x-height and open counters. Interface text is set in Inter, a clean sans-serif that stays out of the way.
Design
The design philosophy is restraint. No hero images, no gradient meshes, no animated backgrounds. The typography is the design. Both light and dark modes use warm color temperatures — cream and warm off-white in light mode, deep blue-gray in dark mode. Neither uses pure black or pure white.
Technology
Built with Next.js and Tailwind CSS. Content is authored in MDX and versioned in Git — no CMS, no database. Deployed on Vercel. Components from shadcn/ui are used selectively as building blocks. Animations use Motion (Framer Motion). The reading experience includes a table of contents with active heading tracking, a progress bar, and footnote tooltips.
Why a colophon?
The colophon is a tradition from fine printing — a statement at the end of a book describing the typefaces, paper, and printing methods used. It signals attention to craft. In the same spirit, this page exists because the choices behind a thing matter as much as the thing itself.
