Colophon
Notes on the making.
A statement at the end of a book describing the typefaces, paper, and printing methods used. A signal of attention to craft.
Typography
Display set in Playfair Display, a high-contrast transitional serif that brings an editorial quality to titles. Body in Source Serif 4, designed for long-form digital reading with an open x-height. Interface in Inter, which stays out of the way.
Color
Two grounds — warm cream (oklch(0.985 0.003 80)) and deep blue-gray (oklch(0.135 0.006 260)). Two accents: ruby for prose, teal for function. Neither ground is pure black or white. Both accents were tuned in a public ladder to hit AAA on body type.
Tools that shape this site
Every tool you choose is a small bet about how thinking should work. These are mine, and why.
- iA WriterFor drafting. The blank page is the only feature.
- ObsidianFor marginalia. A canvas for the connections that don't yet have an essay.
- Next.jsFor shipping. MDX gives me prose-with-components without ceremony.
- OKLCHFor color. The first color space that lets me reason about lightness honestly.
- VercelFor hosting. It gets out of the way.
Why a colophon?
It signals attention to craft. It tells the reader: someone made a choice about every part of this. The choices may be wrong, but they were made.
